ATLANTA, GA- Georgia-based firm Synergy Natural Resources, which specializes in the supply and transportation of bulk aggregate materials, announced a deal with truck-maker Peterbilt to convert 200 trucks to liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The trucks will transport Synergy’s PASS Box technology container aggregate delivery system, which the company will demonstrate across the U.S.

PASS Box is a weatherproof portable aggregate supply system that allows customers to transport dry bulk aggregate such as sand, cement or grain throughout the intermodal chain without having to unload the product.

“As the first transaction of an approved $540-million financing plan, $50-million of the funding is budgeted for 500 PASS Box containers, 240 Cheetah ISO trailer chassis, and 50 Peterbilt natural gas trucks that are to be used in the fracturing sand market for delivery to oil and gas drilling operations and to those customers or suppliers in that industry,” Synergy Natural Resources announced. “This is just the first step in a venture that shall change the way that aggregate materials are delivered internationally.”

As part of the deal, Synergy Natural Resources will also implement a mobile LNG refueling system. Kentucky-based Westport Fuel Systems is supplying dual tank icepack kits for the conversion for a total cost of $7.5 million.

The converted Petes will use 13 trailer mounted mobile natural gas refuelers provided by Texas-based NuBlu Innovations, which specializes in small-scale liquefaction technology and LNG fuel options.
