ADB 225 air disc brake from Bendix

Bendix says its ADB 225 air disc brake reduces stopping distances by up to 39% over today’s stopping distance regulations, according to fleet tests. It also beats the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s proposed 30% reduction for 2007.

The brake, designed for 22.5-inch wheels, is the company’s first air disc brake made specifically for North American applications. Its “mono block” caliper design is more compact than the European two-piece caliper currently sold here, making it better able to fit our wheel-end envelopes.

The brake is claimed to be up to 10% lighter than the lightest drum brake, and pad life is improved by 30 to 50%.
Bendix will start production in 2003.
