Alberta Trucking Companies Pay Less for WCB

EDMONTON— Come 2014, Alberta trucking companies will pay a smaller rate for Workers Compensation Board (WCB) coverage.

The Alberta Motor Transportation Association says that three groups will notice a decrease in their rates: trucking general, trucking specialized and garbage collection and disposal.

• $3.72 is the new premium rate for trucking general, down from $4.25, which is a 12.47 percent decrease
• $2.78 is the new premium rate for trucking specialized, down from $3.22, which is a 13.66 percent decrease
• $3.00 is the new premium rate for garbage collection and disposal, down from $3.16, which is a 5.06 percent decrease

Rates are reflective of the industry’s overall performance. AMTA provides safety guidance and training to all three rate groups that will benefit from the decrease.
