Eastern truckers parked over fuel costs
GRAND FALLS, N.B. -- A few dozen owner-operators are protesting skyrocketing fuel prices in New Brunswick. Media reports state that the truckers have parked their equipment along the Trans-Canada near Grand Falls, N.B. The drivers are asking others to sign a petition calling for government intervention in the rising cost of fuel. According to the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, the group is calling itself New Truckers & Drivers Association of North America. This group has no official status, office, or website presence. It appears to be an independent movement, says APTA. So far, Hwy. 2 and Hwy.17 have been blocked by about 70 trucks in the area of the St. Jacques and Tidehead Scales. The RCMP is monitoring the situation and is currently investigating who is initiating the strike. -- with files from CBC
