Labor standards review underway
OTTAWA -- The Federal Labour Standards Review Commission has begun a series of public hearings and consultations intended to improve the workplace. The Commission is seeking input from all quarters and interested persons, and will report to the Minister of Labour and Housing with legislative and non-legislative options. Federal labour standards fall under Part III of the Canada Labour Code, and currently address issues such as hours of work, minimum wage, unjust dismissals, and annual vacation. Individual input is encouraged. Hearings will be held at the following locations in October: Edmonton - The Sutton Place Hotel October 6; Calgary - Calgary Marriott October 11-12; Montreal - Courtyard Marriott Montreal October 18-19; Moncton - Delta Beauséjour October 24; Charlottetown - Best Western Charlottetown October 24; Halifax - Delta Barrington October 25-26; St. John’s - Quality Hotel-Harbourview October 27. Hearings took place in September in Whitehorse, Ottawa, Toronto, Regina, Winnipeg, and Vancouver.
