Trimac, top BC school create new driver mentoring-training program
CALGARY -- Bulk carrier Trimac Transportation is partnering with the respected Mountain Transport Institute in Castlegar, B.C. to shore up qualified drivers at its fleet through a new mentoring program that subsidizes training for new recruits. The "Train with Trimac" program hopes to enable men and women to upgrade their skills and start a professional driving career with Trimac, one of Canada's largest for-hire carriers based in Calgary.

Mentoring is a big part of Trimac's program with MTI
This unique program includes the Earning Your Wheels program, administered by MTI, one of the top driver-training facilities in Canada; paid on-the-job coaching with a Trimac coach; a job with Trimac upon graduation; a tuition financing program that covers up to 73 percent of tuition costs for selected students; and tuition of up to $5,000 refunded for student drivers that stay with Trimac for two years. "The success of Trimac and the growth of the trucking industry have created an ongoing need for qualified drivers," says Norm Kennedy, Trimac's vice-president of Western Canada Operations, in a press release. "The Train with Trimac program is designed to assist new drivers in receiving the training required and to come to work for us." The Earning Your Wheels program was developed by the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council to provide a recognized professional training program for the trucking industry. The program includes two months of classroom and in-truck training prior to four weeks of supervised work experience. Students will drive Trimac trucks during their four-week internship, hauling loads for Trimac under the close supervision of an experienced Trimac driver, trained as a coach by MTI. For more information regarding this program contact Trimac's website at, or call 1-877-228-1134. MTI also has more info online at or call Andy Roberts at 1-877-965-3748.
