Fuel rationed at some southern US truckstops

ATLANTA, Ga. -- A handful of truckstop chains in the southern U.S. states are reporting sporadic diesel shortages as a result of hurricanes Ike and Gustav.

According to the official publication of the Owner-Operators Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), Landline, Flying J is saying that diesel supplies are "critical" at about 16 locations in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia where fuel was being rationed out to customers.

Some TravelCenters of America, Pilot Travel Centers and Petro Stopping Centers in the region had also reported some supply disruptions.

However, most locations say they are maintaining normal levels and ask that customers check their websites online for updates on fuel supplies, which remains tight for the time being.
