Meet Darren Christle, CVSA's 2008-2009 President

Truck Talk
Volume 1 Number 23

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has a new president, and for the fourth time in the organization's 26-year history, he is Canadian. Darren Christle is the executive director of Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation's Motor Carrier Division. Darren served as CVSA Vice President in 2005, Secretary Treasurer in 2006, and was elected to top job at CVSA in September during CVSA's 2008 Annual meeting -- held in his hometown of Winnipeg.

Darren sees some interesting years ahead of CVSA in how it conducts roadside enforcement of North America's trucking safety regulations. The organization is looking closely at EOBRs, Performance Based Brake Testers, and other technologies to reduce the cost of the enforcement exercise and improve its efficiency. As CVSA's current president, Darren says he'd like to see measures such as these become more commonplace.

On this edition of Truck Talk, Darren Christle explains the challenges and opportunities of his role as International President, what he sees as CVSA's prime objectives going forward, and how he hopes to gain the trust and cooperation of enforcement personnel, regulators, and motor carriers in 13 Canadian jurisdictions, 50 US States, and Mexico.
