QuikX employee to get Bravery Medal

TORONTO -- QuikX sales employee Tony Tingskou is the newest addition to Governor General Michaelle Jean's list of heroes that will be presented with the Medal of Bravery.

Tingskou will be invited to receive his decoration at a ceremony to be held at Rideau Hall.

The Medal of Bravery recognizes acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances.

On April 21, 2007, Constable Aaron Courtney along with Shawn Sangha and Tony Tingskou rescued two people from a burning vehicle in Abbotsford, B.C.

Sangha and Tingskou managed to pull the passenger to safety, but were unable to reach the driver who was pinned between his seat and the steering wheel, the Ontario Trucking Association reports.

Police officers attempted to extinguish the quickly spreading fire as flames started entering the vehicle. Constable Courtney entered through the rear passenger door to help the driver, but was forced out by the thick smoke, unable to breathe.

He re-entered the vehicle and pushed the driver’s seat backwards, allowing others to help pull the victim out through the window.
