THE BRONX, NY -- Was it a Ram-bo-style rescue or just a good-old-fashioned ewe turn?

Fast thinking by a livestock trucker saved the life of a little lamb who is now alive and well and looking forward to a new life in the lovely Finger Lakes District of Upstate New York State.

According to local media, the driver was about to unload his trailer full of sheep at a Bronx slaughterhouse when a female passerby, who had been shopping at a nearby Italian market, stopped to watch.

She was shocked, according to reports, to see a tiny wee lamb, laying among the throngs of others.

She brought the baby to the attention of the driver, who quickly grabbed the little guy and handed him to the woman, explaining that one of the ewes must have given birth in his trailer, en route.

However, there were hundreds on board, so it would be impossible to identify the mother. He also said the lamb was lucky not to be tramped to death.

The woman talked to the slaughterhouse manager who said she could keep the lamb if she chose, so she took the animal to her home in Yonkers, N.Y., where he spent the first week of his life.

From there, the lucky lamb, whose name is now Angelo, was transferred to an organization called Farm Sanctuary, in Watkins Glen, N.Y., which is run by Meredith Turner -- so, yes, indeed, Meredith has a little lamb.
