SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- An updated list of diesel particulate matter control technology options for complying with the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) reefer unit Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM), is now available on the agency's website.
The ATCM In-Use Performance Standards require emission-control retrofits on all refrigerated trucks as trailers and containers
(Compliance options can be accessed here).
The rule, which kicks on Dec. 31, 2009, affects 2002 and older TRU engines that operate in California, regardless of where they are from
Industry notes that lead times for delivery and installation of such compliant technologies can take up to three months, so carriers that haul into the Golden State are encouraged to car fast.
CARB has indicated there will be no allowances.
Operators of noncompliant TRUs can face fines of up to US$500 per unit.
