TORONTO -- Not at all surprisingly, trucking is very well represented once again on the prestigious list of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies.
Seven national for-hire carriers, plus a well-know logistics provider made the Platinum Club, which salutes companies who have won the Best Managed award for at least six consecutive years.
A handful of other carriers, plus a few trucking allied businesses, requalified for the list or cracked it for the first time.
This national award is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC Commercial Banking, the National Post, and Queen's School of Business.
Armour Transportation Systems achieved Platinum Club member status, along with Bison Transport, Challenger Motor Freight, Kriska Holdings, MacKinnon Transport, M-O Freightworks, MSM Transportation, Quik X Transportation, and the Yanke Group of Companies.
Also making the Platinum category was the Wheels Group, a third party logistics firm and Shaw Communications, which has a division dedicated in in-cab dispatch and communications solutions to the trucking industry.
Meanwhile, winning the award for the first time are United Van Lines Canada, as well as Kemptville Truck Centre, which sells International brand commercial trucks; and Wakefield Canada, a heavy-duty and automotive aftermarket supplier.
Returning to the list are the Day & Ross Transportation Group, TransX Group of Companies, and Cummins Western Canada.
"It takes a company focused on values, a strong business plan, and most of all hard work, to succeed in today's market place" said Calvin Younger, Senior Vice-President, CIBC Commercial Banking. "Companies winning this year's Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies exemplify these traits."
2009 winners of the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies award, along with Requalified and Platinum Club members will be honoured at the annual Best Managed gala in Toronto on March 8th, 2010.
On the same date, the Best Managed symposium will address leading-edge business issues that are key to the success of today's business leaders.
