Female drivers easier on equipment?

MIAMI - - "Women."

That was Ellen Voie's rapid-fire response when todaystrucking.com asked her to guess which sex took better care of the family wheels.

It took Voie, the president and CEO of Women in Trucking, about a quarter of a nanosecond to come up with her answer.

And according to an organization out of Miami called LeaseTrader.com, Voie may be correct; women baby their cars longer than men. (Not longer than they baby their men; longer than they coddle their cars.ed.)

LeaseTrader.com polled 2,500 men and women and the numbers show that women are over three-times more likely to stay in love longer with their car.

Voie, a huge advocate of having more women hired as truck drivers, says the implication is obvious.

"If they take better care of their family cars," she says, "it's only logical that women'll take better care of your trucks."

Speaking of Women in Trucking, Voie was reached by phone moments after leaving a meeting with the administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrtation (FMCSA) Anne Ferro.

"Anne is one of the most visible women in trucking," Voie said.
