WINNIPEG -- The provincial government in Manitoba has changed its long combination vehicle policy to allow a maximum length of 35 m for so-called Rocky Mountain Doubles.
The extra length allows the use of tractors with attached sleeper berths rather than a day cab and harmonizes LCV requirements with neighboring Saskatchewan, the ministry informed the Manitoba Trucking Association.
The 35-m truck combinations are allowed, by permit, on the same routes where Turnpike Doubles (TPDs) currently travel (under the same restrictions); on Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 1 east of Pipeline Road; and on PTH 16 east of Shoal Lake.
The ministry notes that it cannot allow RMDs longer than 32.5 m on PTH 6 because "roadway geometrics do not meet the standard currently recommended for LCVs."
