Vedder sings LNG tune

VANCOUVER -- Vedder Transport is giving Petes a chance this Holiday season -- LNG-powered Petes, that is.

The Abbotsford, B.C.-based, 300-truck, bulk carrier is taking delivery of 50 Peterbilt 386's powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Terasen Gas, a subsidiary of Fortis Inc., the province’s largest natural gas distributor, will fuel the fleet through a planned LNG refuelling station in Abbotsford, which is expected to be built in 2011.

The LNG engines are built by Westport Innovations, of Vancouver.

Vedder's move comes shortly after a similar announcement from Quebec’s Robert Transport, which ordered 180 of the same Petes in October.

The Westport HD System consists of the GX 15-liter engine, proprietary Westport fuel injectors, LNG fuel tanks with integrated cryogenic fuel pumps, and associated electronic components to facilitate robust performance and reliable operation.

The Westport HD GX engine is certified and compliant to 2010 U.S. EPA and California Air Resources Board emission limits.

Commented Clark Quintin, president of Westport's HD division: "[The Vedder purchase] further demonstrates that natural gas is rapidly becoming a mainstream fuel solution for the trucking industry in Canada."

Adding natural gas trucks to its fleet will help reduce transportation-related emissions, ultimately improving air quality while reducing fuel management expenses," said Fred Zweep, president of the Vedder Transportation Group.

Well how about putting the load before the Pipeline. I think promoting Vedder Transport ordering 50 Natual Gas Fired Peterbilts for the Lower Mainland of BC is Bad for all Home Owners in the Lower Main Land where half of BC' Population Live. For those of you who are ignorant of some Pipeline capacity facts we have a huge problem in the South west corner of BC. The Pipe Lines both oil and Gas were built in the 1950's and the Pipe line Company's have been doing surge capacity expansions for the past few years to make up for lack of capacity on the line. When a cold spell comes there are numours big users that have to shut down production and use of Natual Gas to enable line Presure to stay at a stable rate to keep furnaces on. We need a new additional Pipeline Built and they have not done that yet to to too many inviromental groups and others driving the cost through the roof and a dumb BC Government that can't take charge and make things happen like BILL Bennett BC Social Credit Party could and did that built BC. Since the Bennett period ended in 1986 BC has been going down hill for 24 years and counting. So Vedder Transport make sure you have the Trucks full of Natural Gas before the East wind blows in the Valley cause you won't be able to refill them till after the Cold spell ends. Keep some old Diesels around so that the Milk still gets picked up cause those cows and us humans need the milk 24/7. Yours Truly, Gord Currie 604-792-6720
