ShareSEATTLE -- The Port of Seattle’s Clean Truck Program is now in effect, and port authorities say there have been just a few delays as a result.
As of Jan. 1, Seattle became the latest Pacific Coast port to ban trucks built prior to 1994 from entering the Port.
Trucks entering terminals are also required to register in the Port’s Drayage Truck Registry, and display a green sticker on the driver side door in order to be identified by port authorities.
According to media reports a statement from the port read, “So far, over 5,929 trucks and over 1,100 trucking companies/truck owners are registered in the Drayage Truck Registry,”
The program was put in place to lower emissions under the Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy.
Although contested by trucking companies, Los Angeles, Long Beach and Vancouver have similar programs in place.
Earlier this month, the ports of New York-New Jersey also adopted Clean Truck policies.
