WINNIPEG -- Bison Transport looked to the other side of the Canada-U.S. border and liked what it saw in Britton Transport.
The Winnipeg-based truckload powerhouse acquired Britton Transport of Grand Forks, N.D., a provider of van, flatbed, step deck and bulk hopper truckload services.
Financial details were not disclosed.
"The acquisition of Britton is an important first step in Bison Transport’s US expansion strategy," stated Bison’s President and CEO Don Streuber in a press release.
"Britton is a well run operation and has been a strong US partner carrier of ours over the last five years handling a growing portion of our US freight."
The transaction will provide Bison with a US base of operations in close proximity to the border.
"Since 1980, our company has grown from a small brokerage operation with two employees to a full service truckload transport provider with over 45 tractors and 65 employees and drivers," added Britton's founder Dave Britton.
"Bison is a key customer and an important partner of Britton’s and this transaction represents a natural evolution of that relationship."
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed in late May, 2011.
