PRESCOTT, Ont. -- This southeastern Ontario town is turning into a major trucking hub.
Already home to Kriska Transport, Prescott will likely be the site of a new 20,000-sq-ft terminal belonging to Speedy Transport of Brampton, which has made an offer to purchase 12.5 acres of land just north of the 401.
Speedy already has terminals in Montreal and Brampton and earlier this week, Prescott Town Council voted to proceed with the sale of land and schedule a zoning change to accommodate the terminal.
The Prescott operation, which could employ as many as 30 people, would be used to offload products destined for Ottawa, the U.S. and the area around Brockville and Cornwall.
Speedy CEO Brian Comfort confirmed to todaystrucking.com that his company will start building as soon as the zoning and bylaw changes go through.
According to the local newspaper Brockville Recorder And Times Mayor Brett Todd said the concentration of trucking businesses in town could attract other related industries.
