NAFTA highway trade rises

ARLINGTON, Va. – U.S.-Canada surface totaled $44.6 billion in April, an 11.8 percent increase than the same month in 2010.

Overall, trade transported by highway, rail or pipeline between the U.S. and both NAFTA partners was 12.1 percent higher in April, reaching $73.8 billion, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

The value of NAFTA trade that month rose 48.3 percent in two years from April 2009 but remained 0.7 percent below the early recession level of April 2008.
