ShareNEW GLASGOW, N.S. -- Unemployed older workers in small communities in Nova Scotia –- namely those in trucking -- will benefit from two projects jointly funded by the governments of Canada and the province.
The Nova Scotia Trucking Human Resource Sector Council will get just under $203,000 to the to help 14 unemployed older workers to develop their skills and prepare for employment in the trucking industry.
Career Connections will receive $154,000 to assist another 14 older workers enhance their employment skills.
"Jobs and growth remain a top priority for the Government of Canada," said Minister MacKay. "We are pleased that our government is taking action, along with the province, to ensure that unemployed older workers in small communities get the skills training and support they need to find jobs and adapt to the changing economy."
The Targeted Initiative for Older Workers is an important part of the Government of Canada's strategy to create the best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world.
