ARLINGTON, Va. -- The American Transportation Research Institiute (ATRI) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have released a report identifying congestion spots crucial to the freight transportation network at 250 locations.
The top 10 were:
1 Chicago, IL: I-290 at I-90/I-94
2 Fort Lee, NJ: I-95 at SR 4
3 Houston, TX: I-45 at US 59
4 Houston, TX: I-10 at I-45
5 Houston, TX: I-10 at US 59
6 Gary, IN: I-65 at I-80 IN
7 Austin, TX: I-35
8 Chicago, IL: I-90 at I-94 (North)
9 Atlanta, GA: I-285 at I-85 (North)
10 Los Angeles, CA: SR 60 at SR 57

The research uses a combination of customized software tools, terabytes of data from trucking operations, and ATRI-developed analysis to create the rankings, giving a clear picture of congestion during peak times at urban locations.
The hope is that both private and public stakeholders will use the information to better understand freight transportation congestion, and use it to improve long-term routing strategies.
