COLUMBUS, IN — ACT Research reported last week that Class 3-8 used truck sales kept sliding into the negative in November.
Volumes were mixed on a channel by channel basis, ACT said, with auction dealers being able to sell more equipment.
“The industry was hopeful that improved new truck sales would provide some much needed relief for the growing used truck inventory shortage, Steve Tam, vice president-commercial vehicle sector with ACT, "but so far that has not happened.”
Tam said that a possible explanation for the sliding volumes is that used trucks are being remarketed through channels outside of the ACT database or are being sold directly by the trucker. Another reason, Tam added, could be because the units are older with more miles, taking longer for them to be repaired and reconditioned before they are saleable units.
