Today's Trucking presents The Ultimate Test Drive Series. You've seen and read dozens of our Test Drive stories, but you've never seen one's like these. Ride along with seasoned journalist and 20-year driver, Jim Park, as he tests the mettle of the trucks and equipment you'll soon be driving yourselves.
We launched our Ultimate Test Drive Series by travelling to Greensboro, N.C. to check out Volvo's new fuel-saving feature, the XE13 drivetrain. While he was there, Jim decided to put Volvo's I-Shift transmission through its paces in an urban setting. We pitted man versus machine, as Jim Park tested his shifting skills against those of the I-Shift in our inaugural I-Shift Performance Challenge.
"I'm really excited about The Ultimate Test Drive Series," Park says. "It'll open up a whole new way of exploring a truck in a test drive setting. The I-Shift Performance Challenge is something we just couldn't do in print."
Watch for many more Ultimate Test Drives as we visit your favorite OE in the near future. Coming in rapid succession in November and December will be a 3-part look at Mack's latest released, followed closely by test drives of the Kenworth T680 and Freightliners new Cascadia model.
