ArvinMeritor Adds Quadraulic Disc Brake

ArvinMeritor has added another disc brake to its product line: the four-piston Quadraulic, designed for medium-duty trucks with 19.5- or 22.5-inch wheel sizes.

The company says the new brake’s caliper-in 4x64mm and 4x70mm sizes-is more durable and offers longer lining life compared with conventional rail-and-pin-slider hydraulic brakes. Other benefits include an improved phenolic piston design and easier pad replacement (simply remove the retention bolt-no need to swing the caliper away).

The four-piston caliper is hard-mounted to the anchor plate, which, along with high-temperature piston boot compound, sealed bleeder screws, and full-coverage zinc plating, should minimize maintenance. And with the fixed caliper design, brake hoses stay in place during pad replacement.

The brake can be adapted to fit most vehicles with a hydraulic system capable of 1800 psi. The maximum GVWR for the 4×64-mm caliper is 24,000 pounds, 33,000 for the larger one.

The Quadraulic is available now in Ford, Freightliner, General Motors, Sterling, Thomas Bus, Western RV vehicles, and through ArvinMeritor’s aftermarket operation.
