Auxiliary AC with Solar Help

Dometic and eNow have teamed up to harness the power of the sun to cool truck sleepers. The eNow-Dometic system is designed to increase driver comfort and retention by extending run-time on auxiliary A/C for class 8 sleeper trucks.

eNow’s new solar photovoltaic (PV) panels for the Dometic Blizzard Turbo auxiliary air conditioner create the first solar-powered auxiliary A/C for class 8 sleeper trucks, the companies say.

Uniquely, truck owners can install eNow PV panels with no upfront cost on a ‘pay as you go’ program. The user pays a “small” fixed monthly fee for the use of the hardware, as well as for the energy they use.

The Dometic Blizzard Turbo auxiliary air system provides 7000 BTUs of cooling.

With eNow, solar power is captured and stored in the on-board battery system and distributed to various truck/trailer functions, including auxiliary air.  Using solar to power auxiliary air and other functions increases the life of the truck’s alternator and auxiliary battery system by reducing the alternator load at idle and over-the-road, and charging the battery more efficiently at its optimal voltage.
