Bendix Moving HQ, But Not Far Away

ELYRIA, OH —  After Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems announced in February it planned to build a new headquarters in Northeast Ohio, the company announced on Friday it has found a place for a new home not far from its current location.

It will remain in Lorain County and will be located in Avon, OH, just over 10 miles from its current location in Elyria.

A contract has been signed to purchase an approximately 60-acre site that the company said is needed due to continued growth resulting in it exceeded the capabilities and capacity of its current location.

A groundbreaking date for the new headquarters has not yet been finalized and is also contingent on final approvals from state and local entities.

“We are pleased to select Avon as the community for our future and excited about this next chapter in our history,” said Joe McAleese, Bendix chairman. “Our new location allows Bendix to continue drawing from the skilled workforce in Northeast Ohio that has contributed so importantly to our success. And the site in Avon will not only allow us to remain in Lorain County, but will accommodate the expanded, updated facility required to maintain and accelerate the rapid growth we’ve experienced, particularly over the past dozen years.”

More than 550 members of the organization’s 3,000 people workforce are employed in Elyria, overseeing the company’s research, development, engineering, testing, sales, and marketing. Bendix established its Elyria headquarters in 1941, when the company was known as Bendix-Westinghouse.

The company will continue to operate out of its existing headquarters until construction of the new facility is complete.

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems develops and manufactures active safety and braking system technologies for commercial vehicles and is owned by the Munich, Germany-based Knorr-Bremse Group.
