Bendix, Spectra in marketing and distribution alliance

TORONTO (Feb. 13, 2001) — Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems will market and distribute a visual brake stroke indicator and diagnostic system supplied by Toronto-based Spectra Inc., the companies announced yesterday.

Bendix, a leading supplier of brake products for commercial vehicles, will distribute Spectra’s Brake Safe product under the Bendix brand and market it exclusively throughout Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

Brake Safe is designed to provide fast and accurate visual inspection of air brake adjustment for trucks, tractors, trailers, and buses.

Bendix has a network of over 3000 dealers, distributors and OEM manufacturers. Spectra plans to convert its existing network of Brake Safe distributors to the Bendix-supplied product line by midyear, said Spectra chairman Andrew J. Malion.

The value of the deal is at least $4 million.

“Bendix is a good fit for us and for Brake Safe,” Malion said. “This agreement broadens our exposure to the North American market, associates us with a very strong industry supplier, and enables us to perhaps bring other products through its distribution channels in the future.”

Spectra’s product line includes Brake Inspector, an electronic brake diagnostic system; Termin-8r anti-corrosion and extreme pressure lubricants; and SmarTire, a wireless tire monitoring system.
