WINNIPEG, MB — Bison Transport has launched an annual scholarship program in memory of John Martin, who was integral to the company’s rapid growth, according to Bison.

The scholarship is available to dependants of Bison employees who are pursuing post-secondary education. Bison gives preference to applicants planning on studying disciplines relevant to trucking, such as Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Heavy Equipment Technicians, etc. Academic merit is also taken under consideration.

The scholarship amount will be decided on a case by case basis and varies between $1,000 to $5,000, according to Bison.

Deadline to apply is September 15, 2014 and the winner is picked October 15, 2014. You can get the application form here: John Martin Memorial Scholarship Application.

“John started with Bison in 1990 when we only had 18 tractors, yet he quickly became a mentor and inspirational leader,” Bison’s scholarship page states. “John was the catalyst for our rapid growth and for fostering a culture based on the aggressive pursuit of success.”

Bison ranks fifth in Today’s Trucking’s top 100 fleets list with over 1,400 tractors, 4,200 trailers, 500 owner-operators and 2,200 employees.
