WINNIPEG -- Bison Transport is the only Canadian fleet in a new nine-month-long driver-seat study that could radically change the well-being of truckers everywhere.
The Winnipeg fleet is partnering with the American high-tech company best known for loudspeakers to measure the effectiveness of Bose’s high-tech driver’s seat, known as the Bose Ride System.
According to a statement from Bison, the system “replaces the conventional air-ride truck seat with a Bose suspension base and an integrated custom-designed seat top. It will provide drivers with an unprecedented level of protection from road-induced shocks and vibration."
Bison says the cost of this highly specialized seat is significantly higher than current top-of-the-line seat specs, “which is why this system needs to be studied to understand the actual costs and benefits of this technology."
Before making a major investment the company wants to determine, among other things, how the Bose system will affect drivers’ overall health and wellness, as well as driver satisfaction and retention level.
The Bison-Bose project will begin in April.
(Several Today’s Trucking editors have experienced demonstrations of the high-tech seat and came away amazed at how the seat reduces vibration. To see a demonstration, click here.
