Burgers With a Side of Thank You, Truckers!

Cervus Equipment Peterbilt’s Mark Dorais shows Saskatchewan Minister of Highways and Infrastructure Nancy Heppner the ins and outs of the 75th anniversary edition Pete 579.

REGINA, SK- Rolling through the weigh scale on Highway 11 northwest of Regina was more cheerful than usual on September 18 because it came with a side of burgers and free goodies for truckers.

It’s where the Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA) held their professional driver appreciation BBQ and some 500 truck drivers got burgers and thank you packets filled with donated items from SGI, carrier companies and industry leaders.

Saskatchewan Minister of Highways and Infrastructure Nancy Heppner attended the event, hopped into a 75th anniversary Peterbilt 579 and thanked  the over 400,000 Canadian men and women employed in the trucking industry, who deliver goods safely and on time every day.

In Canada, the STA says, about two thirds of Canada to U.S. trade moves by truck, including over 80 percent of all exports into Canada from the U.S.

Sponsoring the event was SGI Canada – Cargo Secure, Sysco Canada and Cervus Peterbilt Equipment.  The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), the Government of Saskatchewan, Ministry of Highways and the uniformed Highway Traffic Officers of the Regina North Weigh Scale were also involved.

Enforcement officers were on hand to talk with and answer questions from truck drivers in a friendly, informal way.
