Can-Am land trade keeps making gains
WASHINGTON — U.S.-Canada surface transportation trade totaled $39.9 billion in April, 32.1 percent higher than April 2009.
The value of imports carried by truck was up 21.5 percent from April 2009, while the value of exports was 31.6 percent higher during this period, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Overall, land transportation between the U.S. and Canada and Mexico gained 32.4 percent in April from the year-ago month.
This is the third consecutive monthly increase of at least 24 percent from the previous year, but freight value was still down 11.4 percent from April 2008.
