Canada’s Truckers Compete for Top Fleet Award

OTTAWA, ON — If you have not yet entered the new Top Fleet Employers contest, it’s no problem; there’s still time. Trucking HR Canada is accepting applications until Feb. 28.

“There is just one month to go, and we want to ensure fleets of every size take the opportunity to apply,” says Angela Splinter, chief executive officer of Trucking HR Canada. “We are certainly excited about the response so far. Many completed applications have already been submitted.”

The new program was launched late in 2013 and aims to find the best workplaces in Canada’s trucking industry. It’s different from the Best Fleet to Drive For survey and contest because Top Fleet Employers is open not only to for-hire fleets, but also to private fleets. Another difference is that while the Best Fleet to Drive For survey and contest is open for all for-hire trucking companies with over 10 trucks in Canada and the U.S., Top Fleet Employers is only open to Canadian fleets and they do not have a specification on the minimum number of trucks a fleet must have to apply.

“Canada’s trucking industry faces a shortage of qualified drivers, and it will face increasing competition for future employees as other industries struggle with shortages of their own.

“Top Fleet Employers offers a way to highlight the best working environments in the trucking industry, showcases strong safety records, and promotes exceptional human resources practices. Highlighting these success stories will make the trucking industry more attractive to a new generation of workers and under-represented groups – helping the industry to find the workers it needs and keep the freight moving,” Splinter says.

For-hire and private fleets will be evaluated on a criteria based on the Canadian Trucking Alliance’s Blue Ribbon Task Force on the Driver Shortage’s core values. For more information on the criteria and for submission form applications, visit Trucking HR Canada’s website.

“The vigorous selection criteria reflect Canadian human resources issues, trends and working environments, and have been validated by a panel of trucking industry experts and certified human resource professionals,” Splinter says.

For-hire fleets can enter the competition here and private fleets can enter here.
