Canuck Beauty on Winners’ Podium at SuperRigs Show

Rodger Nelson won fourth place in the tractor division at the annual Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs show with his 2013 Peterbilt 389.

CONCORD, NC — Canadian trucker Rodger Nelson was a first timer at the annual Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs show in North Carolina, but that didn’t stop him from taking an award back home to Saskatoon.

Nelson, who drives for Titan Transport, braved heavy rains and severe weather warnings earlier this May to show off his beautiful 2013 Pete 389, painted blue and orange – his favorite color.

He got fourth place in the tractor division and won $500 at the 32nd Annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs competition held May 15-17 at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C.

The competition is one of the premier truck beauty contests for actively working trucks.

Owner-operators from across the United States and Canada competed for cash and prizes valued at approximately $25,000. Twelve drivers were also selected to have their truck featured in the 2015 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar.

Trucks entered in SuperRigs are judged by industry professionals who work for major trucking publications or broadcast companies. Judges score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship. A total of 24 working trucks received awards for categories such as Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor/Trailer Combination and Classic, among others.

This year, Best of Show honors went to Bill Rethwisch of Tomah, Wis. Who won for the second year in a row with his green and white 2013 Peterbilt 389. Last year, he won with his orange and white 2012 Peterbilt 389. Rethwisch took home $10,000 from Shell Rotella, $5,000 from MAC Trailer and 50,000 Shell Rotella MyMilesMatter reward points.  He also won first place in the Best Engine and Best Interior categories.

Austin Ashley from Raleigh, Miss. won Best of Show first runner up and $4,000 with his 2007 Peterbilt 379 and $3,000 from MAC Trailer.  He also won for Best Chrome and Best Theme.  Paul Rissler of California, Mo. was awarded Best of Show second runner up and $2,000 from Shell Rotella and $2,000 from MAC Trailer for his 1996 Peterbilt 379.
