Canucks load up on truckload awards

ORLANDO, Fla. — Traditionally, a couple of Canadian carriers fare well at the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) annual safety awards and this year was no different.

Both Bison Transport and MacKinnon Transport were divisional winners of the TCA 33rd Annual National Fleet Safety Awards. Division winners are based on low accident frequency per million miles and Bison won first place in the 100-plus million miles category, while MacKinnon took first place in the 25 – 49 million mile category.

This is the fourth year in a row Bison has taken first spot in the division representing carriers who travel the most miles. Last year the Winnipeg-based carrier was also awarded the grand prize, which is determined from the top three carriers in each of the six divisions.

MacKinnon is also no stranger to the awards ceremony, as last year trucker Doug Ladds won the Company Equipment Driver of the Year award.

Although no driver took home a top award this year, Bison’s Ralph Boles placed third in the Company Equipment Driver of the Year nominations, which is no small feat considering competition comes from across North America.
