D-Day for older FAST cards

OTTAWA — Starting today, if you’re one of a handful of truckers who still has a first-generation FAST card, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will take it from you and destroy it.

CBP began issuing new Generation-2 Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) FAST cards in March 2009 and cross-border truckers should have one by now.

CBP officers will confiscate Generation-1 cards, permit one time entry, if eligible, and refer the member to the Enrollment Center (EC) for issuance of a Generation-2 card.
