December Class 8 Truck Orders Going Strong

COLUMBUS, IN — December is the time of year when the big fleets and leasing companies in North America are in the market to buy big rigs, according to Americas Commercial Transportation (ACT) research.

“December Class 8 orders were up 50 percent month over month and year over year,” said Kenny Vieth, ACT’s president and senior analyst.

ACT research publishes new and used truck industry data and market analysis.

In total, North American classes 5-7 orders are expected to be about 14,200 units in December and class 8 orders are expected to be about 31,800 units.

“December’s Classes 5-7 orders pulled back, following several strong order months. However, Q4 classes 5-7 orders of 51,800 represent the best quarterly intake since the first quarter of 2008,” Vieth said.
