December's Class 8 Orders Second Best in Six Years

COLUMBUS, IN – Looks like the preliminary data on class 8 trucks orders was on the mark.

Class 8 orders, reported ACT Research today, were the second best order month in six years with net orders climbing to 30,293.

When seasonally adjusted (SA), December's orders were the best since April 2011 and resumed the strong trend that has been happening since August 2011.

In regards to November's drop in class 8 orders, Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst at ACT, said that it "was circumstantial, rather than fundamentally derived.

“Part of the order drop in November was a significant spike in cancellations," he explained. "To that end, part of December’s net order strength was a plunge in cancellations to their second lowest level in 2011."

Meanwhile, demand for medium-duty vehicles remained a study in consistency: There were only 3,000 units separating the best and worst order months of 201, with December falling in the middle of the range.
