Diesel Prices Down For Second Straight Week

LONDON, ON and WASHINGTON, D.C. — The average cost of diesel fuel in Canada barely moved lower over the past week while gasoline did an about-face, according to new figures released Tuesday by petroleum information services provider The Kent Group

The $0.001 drop in diesel to $1.117 per liter also marks the second consecutive weekly decline and the lowest price since the week of April 28 when it was at $1.11 per liter.

Compared to the same week a year earlier the price is $0.223 less.

Regionally, average prices this week are $1.112 in the Atlantic section of the country, $1.175 in Quebec, $1.113 in Ontario and $1.108 in Western Canada.

In contrast to diesel, the average cost of regular grade gasoline increased $0.015 from last week to $1.221 per liter following two consecutive weekly declines.

Despite the hike it is $0.151 less than it was during this time last year.

U.S. Diesel, Gasoline Less

Meantime, in the U.S. the average cost of on-highway diesel has moved lower for the sixth straight week to US$2.832 per gallon, its lowest price since late April and US$1.081 less than the same in 2014, according to the country’s Energy Department.

Prices declined or were unchanged over the past week in all parts of the country except in the Rocky Mountain and West Coast regions, at US$2.785 and US$3.069, respectively.

U.S. on-highway diesel prices range from a low of US$2.712 in the Gulf Coast region to a high of US$3.073 in the Central Atlantic states, though the West Coast region is a close second highest.

Also, the average U.S. cost of regular grade gasoline fell over the past week to by US$0.008 to US$2.793, which is US$0.885 less than the same time a year earlier.
