Drivers Blame Roundabout for Truck Rollovers

WINDSOR, ON — A roundabout that has been the scene of three truck accidents over a six-week period is getting criticism from drivers for being the cause of the rollovers.

The most recent one happened last Saturday at Highway 3 and Highway 401.

According to published reports, drivers interviewed describe the area as “dangerous” and a “safety hazard.”

In this most recent accident, police say the truck driver was speeding, but the man claims he came to a complete stop before entering the roundabout. Richard Rowe was given a $400 fine for speeding, which he says he will fight in court.

According to Rowe, the tanker he was hauling was filled with 48,000 pounds of concentrated juice, but the roundabout is too narrow for big rigs. Truckers interviewed by other media outlets have echoed the same comments, including one that talked to CBC

Ontario officials say the roundabout meets all design standards

When contacted by the Windsor Star about the recent crashes in the area, the group said having mandatory anti-rollover technology in trucks is needed to address the problem.
