TROY MI – If any of your Stateside drivers find themselves being greeted with a tad more enthusiasm than usual this week, tell them not to be paranoid. They’re not in trouble.
Fact is, it’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week in the States and many companies are giving out free high-fives and attaboys to truckers hither and yon.
For example, at each of its U.S. manufacturing sites this week, Meritor employees will personally thank the drivers delivering raw materials to its plants and the drivers who transport the finished goods to important customers.
Banners of appreciation posted at all plant locations will share the company's appreciation for their service and commitment to delivering goods safely and on time.
"At Meritor, we want to recognize the more than 3 million truck drivers nationwide who deliver life's essentials," said Tim Bowes, president, Commercial Truck, Meritor. "These men and women literally keep the country moving.
The week is sponsored by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) and it’s often the week that carriers choose to award driver bonuses or safety awards. Drivers across the States find themselves being offered free coffee or goodie bags at truck stops.
Some carriers get office personnel to ride shotgun with drivers to get a taste of life on the road and finally, the ATA is hosting a video contest focusing on drivers.
ATA is once again hosting a video contest focusing on the professional truck driver. To view some of the industry submissions, click here.
