Eaton Expands UltraShift Coverage

Eaton has enhanced its lineup of UltraShift PLUS automated transmissions by adding compatibility with 2-speed axles, mainly to increase the line’s appeal among vocational customers, especially dump and heavy-haul fleets. The company says it provides a cost-saving alternative to torque-converter automatics.

Production begins this month.

The new features include enhanced gear-reduction capabilities to maximize on/off-road capabilities. Eaton says the option allows for the elimination of gearboxes that are typically installed behind an automatic design, bringing lower overall vehicle cost and less driveline complexity that can reduce service and maintenance costs.

All makes and models of UltraShift PLUS can be specified with the 2-speed axle software. Standard warranties, which are dependent on application, remain the same for this newest application expansion.

All of Eaton’s UltraShift PLUS transmissions feature self-adjusting electronic clutch actuation. Intelligent shift selection software employs grade sensing, weight computation, and driver throttle commands to make shift decisions efficiently.

Other features include a ‘Hill Start Aid’ feature to prevent rolling while on steep grades and allowing for smoother vehicle launches; automatic, manual, and low mode selections that are said to offer drivers better control; a ‘Creep’ feature for improved maneuverability with continuous low-speed control; and an oil sight glass to easily check fluid levels.

There are six- and eight-bolt, as well as thru-shaft, power take-off options.
