February Truck Orders Looking Healthy

COLUMBUS, IN — February’s Class 8 truck orders were the fifth best since mid-2006, according to ACT Research, which publishes new and used commercial vehicle data and market analysis for vehicles Class 5 – 8.

ACT analysts expect that about 19,600 Classes 5-7 trucks were ordered and 29,200 Class 8 trucks were ordered in February 2014.

“Despite falling 16 percent from January, February’s net orders were up 30 percent compared to a year-ago,” said Kenny Vieth, ACT’s president and senior analyst. “Since October, Class 8 orders have been booked at a 320,000 Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR).”

“Going even further afield, since the beginning of the third quarter of 2013, Class 8 net orders have been booked at a 299,000 SAAR,” he added.
