FedEx Celebrates Manitoba’s Jack Webster

WINNIPEG – Jack Webster, who operates six trucks with a dozen employees under contract to FedEx Ground, is the only Canadian among three individuals honored with FedEx Ground’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

As a winner, Webster is now in a position to influence FedEx head-office policies, the courier announced Monday.

Every year, FedEx recognizes a handful of agents for exemplary business growth and development, customer service, safety, community involvement and ethics. The winners are selected from among the 8,200 contractors that FedEx uses across North America, The other two winners this year were Jason Brooks of Bangor, ME, Saul Lerma of Yuma, AZ.)

Webster and his son Richard have been operating 6748067 Manitoba, Inc. for 18 years. And in 1991, when the younger Webster was diagnosed with leukemia, Webster was inspired to increase his management role.

Over the years, according to FedEx, the company has established a reputation of excellence that is founded on a deep appreciation of its employees.

Webster’s trucks run about 3,400 miles daily, and Webster consistently aims to dispatch drivers in a positive frame of mind and with ample time to complete their runs safely.

The Websters oversee recruiting and training and defensive-driving courses and they also interact with drivers at the station each day.

In addition to offering a competitive salary and benefits, the company provides employees with a detailed safety plan, which includes incentives for safe driving, regular meetings, and safety publications filled with engaging information. The result: zero service failures and zero preventable accidents.

According to Webster, his success is a reflection of the people he employs.

“We recognize that our drivers are the backbone of our operation, and believe we employ some of the most professional and dedicated people in the industry,” he says.
