First Lloydminster AMTA Safety Conference & Trade Show Set

CALGARY, AB – The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is bringing safety experts together later this month for a safety conference and trade show for what it says is the first event of its kind to be hosted in Lloydminster, SK.

On Jan. 27 officials from the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and commercial vehicle enforcement will gather at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition for the conference entitled “Safety, A Mindset Not a Concept.”

“In Alberta’s uncertain business environment and climate of downsizing, fleet safety professionals and transportation managers are under increasing pressure to find efficient ways to stay abreast of key safety and compliance issues, and protect workers through staff development,” says AMTA in an announcement. “This conference delivers a solid day of learning and information sharing with highly acclaimed industry experts.”

The line up of keynote speakers includes:

Grant Aune, Advantage Fleet Services – Declared by the courts as an expert  witness, this retired 24-year veteran RCMP officer is one of Canada’s leading authorities in commercial vehicle collision reconstruction. Aune’s presentation delivers fresh insight into pressing issues affecting commercial drivers, according to AMTA. Attendees will take away helpful tips and techniques to address high-risk behaviors such as unsafe speed, distraction and non-use of seat belts. “Driving as an art rather than an act”, says Aune, whose presentation will also reference the critical role visual search patterns play in road safety.

Spencer Beach – Burn survivor, safety expert, internationally acclaimed speaker and best-selling author of In Case of Fire. The third generation flooring installer endured a horrific flash fire that left him permanently and severely scarred.

Deborah Nilsen, Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) Alberta – How does modified work affect employers’ WCB premiums? This expert will share important information about protecting workers and your bottom-line.

Sgt. Wes Roth, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Alberta Justice and Solicitor General – Cargo Securement continues to be a challenging area of compliance for fleets and law enforcement. Find out what enforcement officials are seeing in the field and learn how to prevent costly and potentially dangerous mistakes.

The information packed agenda, and an impressive list of trade show participants, provide an exceptional opportunity to gain information and build contacts, according to AMTA. The trade show features government agencies, industry suppliers, allied safety groups and industry supporters.

Pre-registration is required. Cost to register is $30 per person + GST, includes lunch. Contact Jane Douziech at janed1@amta.ca or phone (780) 395-6146.

The conference takes place from 8 am – 4 pm. The registration desk opens at 7:30 am. As a bonus, all conference registrants will receive a $30 voucher to use towards an AMTA course, including driver simulator training.
