Freightliner tops J.D. Power survey

AGOURA HILLS, Calif. — Freightliner products finished first among conventional-cab medium-duty trucks in the 1998 J.D. Power and Associates study of customer satisfaction, released yesterday.

The three main factors in the annual study are vehicle performance, vehicle downtime, and vehicle interior. Freightliner led the list in the vehicle-interior factor, and showed improvement in the other two categories.

The only other conventional brand to finish above the industry average was International, produced by Navistar.

In an accompanying study of dealer-service satisfaction, International was first for the second consecutive year. The three factors in this evaluation are: service attitude and quality, service capabilities, and service timeliness.

Respondents generally reported a decline in satisfaction regarding service, especially in a dealership’s ability to service vehicles in a timely manner.
