GFL Buying Solid Business West and East

VAUGHAN, ON — GFL Environmental Inc. announced that it’s growing its business by buying Waste Management’s assets in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The announcement comes a week after GFL announced they’re buying Contrans’ waste collection business in Alberta.

“The acquisition of Waste Management’s assets in Atlantic Canada offers GFL a unique opportunity to acquire a strong base of customers and assets with six hauling yards and three landfills. We are very excited to expand GFL’s brand into an attractive new market and look forward to welcoming the 145 Atlantic Canada employees to the GFL team,” said Patrick Dovigi, president and CEO of GFL.

The deal is subject to some conditions.

“This transaction is good for all our stakeholders – our investors, customers, employees and communities and we look forward to working with GFL to ensure a smooth transition,” said Brad Muter, area VP Eastern Canada, Waste Management. “Outside of these Atlantic Canada assets, the company has operations in six Canadian provinces and we look forward to continuing our work to service our customers in these provinces and maximize the potential of the assets.”

GFL Environmental Inc. is an environmental services company providing solid waste services, soil remediation and liquid waste services. Through a national platform, GFL serves about 12,100 commercial and industrial customers and about 888,000 households under municipal solid waste contracts. With its most recent acquisitions, it has about 1,600 employees.
