GM completes sale of motorhome, commercial chassis unit

PONTIAC, Mich. (Jan 11) — General Motors Corp. said it had completed the sale of its motorhome and commercial chassis products to Workhorse Custom Chassis, a sister company of the Union City Body Co. of Union City, Ind.

GM announced the sale last year. The company said it wanted to focus resources on its core commercial truck product line.

Workhorse Custom Chassis acquired all related production tooling and machinery and the rights to begin producing its own versions of GM’s current P32 motorhome and P42 commercial chassis products. GM’s P12 chassis products are not part of the agreement and will be discontinued, the company said.

Workhorse is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 1999. As part of the agreement, GM will supply engines and automatic transmissions to Workhorse.
