VICTORIA, BC — The regulations regarding securing rectangular loads of bale has changed in British Columbia.
It used to be that if a truck driver wanted to haul rectangular hay bales exceeding the maximum legal dimensions in BC, v-boards were required to secure the bale on the top tier.
The problem was that the v-boards were difficult to place safely when a person was securing the load alone. Also, when the tie-downs were held away from the bales by the width of the v-board, excessive rubbing of the tie-down against the bales occurred in transit, contributing to the breakage of the baler twine.
So no more v-boards required as of August 1, said B.C’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
Instead, carriers may now choose to use either v-boards or other transverse tie-downs to ensure that each of the bales in the top tier is secured.
