Industrial Organic Absorbent
American Green Ventures says its “revolutionary” SpillFix organic absorbent is made of 100% renewable organic material. It’s said to instantly absorb hazardous liquid spills on contact, including oils, fuels, solvents, paints and chemicals. It means cleanup with minimal downtime.
Developed in Australia and already used throughout much of the world, it’s new to North America.
SpillFix is made from a byproduct of the coconut (coir), which is an organic, renewable resource that is non-carcinogenic, contains no chemicals, and is silica free. When compared to clay-based absorbents, SpillFix users need 80% less product to clean up spills in less than half the time, the maker says. It’s dust-free, non-abrasive, and there is none of the residue often left with sticky clay or absorbent pads.
SpillFix can be reused to clean up more than one spill due to its “superior” absorbency, further adding to its cost savings. It’s also landfill-safe (tested to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Leachate standards), providing lower disposal cost than other absorbent products with no environmental impact.
Biologically stable, used SpillFix that has absorbed hydrocarbons can be used as a fuel source in energy-producing incinerators.
