Mack Adds Telematics

Mack Trucks has extended its Mack GuardDog Connect telematics platform and launched Fleet Management Services, a suite of software that manages compliance and navigation functions through Telogis. Volvo Trucks has a similar arrangement with Telogis, launched this past summer.

Owners of Mack Pinnacle, Granite and Titan models built since January now have access to three on-board diagnostics packages: Telogis Compliance and Navigation, Telogis Fleet, and a bundled package of the two called Mack Fleet Management Services. The requisite hardware is standard on Mack Pinnacle, Granite, and Titan models.

Mack claims the new services enhance operations, reduce costs, and increase safety for customers while eliminating the need for aftermarket hardware purchases and installation costs.

Fleet Management Services uses GuardDog Connect via a black box and cell-phone networks to send data to Mack e-storage facilities. Data then goes either to Mack dealers for servicing of engine and exhaust aftertreatment problems or to Telogis, to facilitate the added functions.

Older truck models with 2013-compatible on-board diagnostics can have the black box and associated equipment installed by Mack dealers, and Telogis also has equipment that can tie in pre-OBD-13 Mack models to telemetry-based services.

GuardDog Connect alerts the driver of diagnosis issues, ranking them from critical and in need of immediate repair to minor and can be addressed after the job is done.

GuardDog Connect also sends alerts to Mack’s 24/7 customer support center so that if a case is opened, the customer-chosen dealer is expecting the truck, knows what the issue is, and has the parts necessary to fix it already on hand to cut downtime.

Telogis uses proprietary Mack data, including driver and vehicle performance history, for the initial Fleet Management Services offer and Telogis Compliance enables drivers to manage and meet hours-of-service requirements and complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.

Telogis Navigation delivers continually updated road conditions collected from a community of more than 140,000 commercial drivers in North America, helping Mack customers to avoid potential delays and to make on-time deliveries.

Another available product is Telogis Fleet, which shows critical information for all the trucks in a fleets on one ‘dashboard’ to help run the fleet safely and efficiently.

Compliance and Navigation is offered as a separate package, or can be taken with Telogis Fleet.

Mack’s first collaboration is with Telogis, but customers can use other providers as part of Fleet Management Services.
